About the forums
Background
Purpose
To stimulate a broad-ranging conversation about our scholarly information environment, the Information Management program of the University Library invites distinguished experts to visit the University of Melbourne during the academic year.
In a lecture, panel discussion or Q&A session, these leading thinkers share their experience, ideas and enthusiasm about the future of scholarly information and the broader field of information management.
Audience
The Information Futures Forums are open to staff and interested students of the University. Staff of other universities and public institutions are also welcome to attend.
Many of these events are recorded. Whenever possible the video, audio and presentation slides are made available on this web site.
History
The Information Futures Forum series began in 2005 under the leadership of Ms Nicki McLaurin Smith, then the Director of Information Management at the University of Melbourne.
The 2008 series was co-hosted by the Information Futures Commission and the Information Management program. We are also grateful to VALA, the National Young Writers' Festival, the Australia Council Literature Board (through its Story of the Future initiative), the University of Newcastle Writing Cultures Research Group, and the Faculty of Arts at the University of Melbourne, for their assistance with booking guest speakers in 2008.
The forums continue today under the auspices of the current Director of Information Management, Ms Donna McRostie.
