Growing Esteem Information Futures

Progress report: period ending 30 April 2008

Actions and achievements

A very interesting Information Futures Forum was held this week on “How will scholarly information and technologies be used in teaching and learning in 10 years' time?” We had a great panel of speakers with Richard James, Kerri-Lee Harris, Gregor Kennedy and Diane Chambers. Slides are available now and the video will be put online shortly.

We have our first structured (as per a template we supplied) Faculty response (MDHS) and six others likely to be sent through within the next week. The MDHS one is on the web site.

Next week we are holding two extraordinary Steering Committee meetings (not everyone could attend at the same time) to work through our thinking to date before our formal meeting the following week.

We have held a number of exploratory workshops with staff and students this week and will continue these into next week. These are proving valuable in confirming some of what we have already learnt and raising some new issues. There are a few folk who are showing up regularly at forums, have written submissions already and who have volunteered for workshops – they are clearly keen contributors!

Timing for May PBC was such that it was not possible to take draft papers from the Commission to the meeting. Papers will now flow straight from the Steering Committee to Academic Board in May and then out for a final consultation stage.
